I know in\"\" my heart that Mother\u2019s Day is meant to be a celebration; however, for those of us who no longer have a living mother . . .this day can be bittersweet.<\/strong><\/p>\n

As the constant television ads and Internet marketing campaigns bombard shoppers, we are often engulfed by countless waves of nostalgic memories.\u00a0 The day can be painful when it should be beautiful.<\/strong>\"\"<\/p>\n

My mom was an at-home mother during an era when that choice was the norm.\u00a0 She dedicated her life to her husband, her home and her children.\u00a0 \u00a0At a young age \u2013 even before I became a mother myself \u2013 I aspired to be as good of a person \u2013 as good of a mother — as she was.\u00a0 Often, I feel as if I have fallen short of my goal.\u00a0 On those days \u2013 I whisper and pray for signs from her \u2013 guidance to keep me on the right path.<\/p>\n

Thankfully, my mother is still inside of my head<\/strong> . . . helping me . . . guiding me . . . encouraging me.\"\"<\/p>\n

When I became a mother myself, it was my mother who helped me find my way.\u00a0\"\" In addition, she poured her love onto my children and became an amazing role model for them as well.\u00a0 \u00a0I wish my mother could know my grandchildren — her great-grandchildren \u2013 they would love her as much as she would adore them.<\/strong><\/p>\n

As I sit at my computer to write this blog, I first went through my tens of thousands of pictures in search of photos of my mother and me.\u00a0 To my dismay, there are not many of them.<\/strong>\u00a0 My mother did not like to have her picture taken, and when she became ill \u2013 battling with cancer \u2013 she REALLY didn\u2019t like having her picture taken.\u00a0 \"\"Thankfully, there are a few I can savor and share . . . and pass along to the generations who will come after her.<\/p>\n

For those of you who do not know me . . . \u00a0\u00a0I\u2019m a photoaholic!<\/strong>\u00a0 Yes!\u00a0 I know that is not a word . . . I think I just made it up.\u00a0 \u00a0Definition:\u00a0 1) a person who constantly takes pictures and 2) a person who annoys others by taking too many pictures. \u00a0\u00a0 When I was a child, my father was the family photographer; however, film & developing were expensive in those days . . . plus his passion was taking pictures of buildings, statues, landscapes, etc with a random family photo now and again . . . rarely with all five of us at the same time.\u00a0 How is it possible that I loved my mother so much, yet I have so few pictures of her with me.<\/strong> Subconsciously, I think my obsession with family pictures stems from this quirk about my own life.\u00a0 I don\u2019t want my children or my grandchildren to have such a limited amount of pictures of family \u2013 as a result, they will be inundated with far too many.\u00a0 Such is life.\u00a0 But I digress.<\/p>\n

For those of you who will celebrate Mother\u2019s Day with your family in tact \u2013 some lovingly \u2013 some begrudgingly \u2013<\/strong> please remember to enjoy your day.\u00a0\u00a0 Take the time to listen to your mom, embrace the moment and share part of yourself with her.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"I lost my mother thirty years ago.\u00a0 Although I feel as if I am healing with the passing of time, there are occasions when the pain \"\"is still very raw. \u00a0I miss my mom every day<\/strong> \u2013 and especially on those days when I want to share pleasant experiences, family gatherings and personal successes. I miss her even more during those days when life is not so easy . . . and I\u2019d like to talk to her about it.<\/p>\n

My mother and I were very close.\u00a0\u00a0 I have a lot of friends \u2013 many of whom are very good friends \u2013 however, my mother was \u2013 and will always be \u2013 my best friend.\u00a0<\/strong> She knew me \u2013 she understood me \u2013 she loved me unconditionally.<\/strong>\u00a0 I may have disappointed her at times, but she never used her love as a weapon to promote guilt; instead, she enveloped me with her positive attitude, her steadfast determination and gentle benevolence.\u00a0 She was a good listener, a great counselor, a fabulous role model and an amazing woman.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Even though more than three decades have passed since I lost my mother, I can still hear her wisdom and feel her love.<\/strong>\u00a0 When I stop long enough to reflect\"\" upon my choices or decisions \u2013 I can feel her on my shoulder and hear her advice.\u00a0 And . . . I say, \u201cThank you, Mom, for building a solid foundation for me when I was a child, for always supporting me, for loving my children as you loved me and for always being the role model I aspire to be.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Happy Mother\u2019s Day to all \u00a0— and remember \u2013 whether you are with your mother today or not \u2013 she is with you!<\/strong><\/p>\n
